Citrus Lip Service

Lip color is taking a plunge towards the more citrus side of color spectrum, with orange lipsticks and glosses emerging on drug store shelves and beauty counters everywhere. Just check out Cover Girl's Shine Blast lip gloss campaign with Drew Barrymore - orange dress, orange lips, orange lettering, and a range of oranges from tangerine to fire. Fashion Designers like, Giambattista Valli chose MAC lip mix in orange to compliment his lovely summer 2010 runway collection. It also showed up on Chanel's and Max Azria spring 2010 runways, but not as bright...

As we all know what's citrus is usually associated with being sour - meaning that not everyone is going to acquire the taste nor the confidence that you need to pull it off such a bold color. But, I say go for it! It's a color that will look good on both fair and darker skin tones (just be sure to bleach your teeth.) It's perfect for a night out on the town with girlfriends, when you have a bold pair of orange stilettos that will balance the weight of the color from head to toe. But, if you're still not convinced after you try it, try a color that is not as quite orange, like a peach or coral. 


Will this color reach acceptance from the masses come spring? Hmmm, who knows - you just have to try it out, like I did last month on Detroit's model Kierra Stafford below - proof that it looks good on darker tones as well.
